Tour Overview

Our guests will park at the bottom of Puia road, in the old plantation village of Paukaa. From there, our tour van will drive everyone up the hill to our beautiful estate at the Honolii Orchards – a family owned multigenerational farm. The drive up the hill is brief but scenic, through old macadamia nut groves and cattle pastures, and you’ll learn some of the history of the area from your driver. Upon arrival, you’ll be greeted by your guide who will be your steward for the rest of your experience.

The best thing I did during my week-long visit to the Big Island. Wrenn and Jude are so welcoming, wicked smart about cacao, and deeply connected to the land. The overview of cacao botany and cultivation was fascinating, and the chocolate was excellent!

Our time at Honolii Orchards was amazing! Everyone in our group agreed that our chocolate tasting/tour went above and beyond our expectations. They show you the cacao trees, let you try the beans and flesh from the fruit, provide you with juice from the fruits, and of course tell you the history of chocolate with your chocolate tastings. Our guide, Wrenn, was super friendly and knowledgeable, and you’re sure to have a great experience with him! Like others have said, this does not feel very touristy and you get to experience a lovely farm with lovely people! Please support them and their businesses!

The chocolate tasting at Honoli‘i Orchard was absolutely amazing! From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed by Wrenn and Darwin in the lush beauty of the Hawaiian landscape. We learned all about the journey from Cacao Bean to chocolate bar, right there on the farm they are creating.
Wrenn was passionate and incredibly knowledgeable, sharing insights on sustainable farming and traditional Hawaiian practices. They are also on the cutting edge of scientific research to preserve the integrity of plants and the land. The tasting itself was fun—rich in complex flavors that showcased just how unique and high-quality Hawaiian artisanal chocolate can be!
This was more than just a tasting—it was a whole sensory experience that connected us to the land, the people, and the craft behind each bar. I highly recommend it to anyone visiting the Big Island. Don’t miss it!

What a great tour! Wren was so knowledgeable about all things Cacao, Jude was a great host. We loved our day of learning on the farm tour, little hot but they provided umbrellas. Chocolate tasting was yummy and interesting and best part, you can buy the chocolate. Would recommend the farm tour for learners or just the tasting for tasters, both are great. Very fun and different experience on our vacation.

After having done vanilla tours and coffee tours, this was THE most satisfying tour and tasting we've ever had! Wrenn and Jude were so passionate about their work that it made it easy for us to enjoy. The history, the process of growing cacao, the process of making it into chocolate and/or juice, the research they're conducting - it was all so interesting. As I told Wrenn, after this tour, I'll never look at a bar of chocolate the same way again!! Come! Learn! Appreciate! Enjoy! You'll love it!

We believe we just got an abbreviated PhD in Cacaoism.
Yes, the true understanding of all that is chocolate. I will not even attempt to say anything other than...Take This Tour! This is more than just the yummys, at the end, you will ACTUALLY believe you are an expert after this tour. It is an immersive, all Hawai'i understanding. Wrenn and Jude are truly amazing hosts.
