Stop At: Bay View Farm, 83-5249 Painted Church Rd, Honaunau, Island of Hawaii, HI 96704-8316

Travel south into Kona coffee country for the first stop at Bay View Farm, a working 24 acre coffee farm nestled on the slopes of Mauna Loa Volcano just above beautiful Kealakekua Bay and known for the best Kona coffee since 1984. Here you’ll see coffee growing on the trees and learn about the various steps and processes in making coffee, all of which happen right here on the farm. You’ll sample Kona Coffee at a gorgeous overlook with stunning views of Kealakekua Bay and the monument to Captain Cook standing on the only sliver of British land in the United States.

Duration: 30 minutes

Stop At: Punalu’u Black Sand beach, Highway 11, Pahala, Island of Hawaii, HI 96777

The adventure continues as you head through the South Kona and Ka’u Districts. Stunning views, alternating between stark lava flows and Hawaiian dry forest, are visible through the huge picture windows of your tour vehicle. We stop briefly at picturesque Punalu’u Black Sand Beach. Lined with swaying coconut palm trees, this is one of the best black sand beaches on the island. Stroll along the beach and look for honu (Green Hawaiian Sea Turtles) feeding just offshore or sun-worshipping on the sand

Duration: 30 minutes

Stop At: Volcano National Park, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, Island of Hawaii, HI

Next travel to the crown jewel of Hawaii, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Visit the Kilauea Visitor’s Center, the Kilauea Iki Crater Overlook, and Steaming Bluffs. Take a walk through the famous Volcano House to view the smoking and steaming Kilauea Caldera. Dropping down into the lush eastern side of Kilauea Volcano our next stop is Big Island Candies.

Best ever! Ultimate Circle Island Explorer our tour/driver guide Tori was excellent! Very informative. Took us off the beaten track to see different waterfalls. Right on with our meals. And very sweet, accommodating with our needs.

Great day out with Tory We had an excellent day exploring the big island with Tory as our tour guide. She was very knowledgeable about the islands history and all the sites. We definitely learnt a few fun facts along the way. She took us to some great places and gave us fantastic tips. We did the coffee farm, bakery, black sand beach, volcano, steam vents, waterfall, big island candies and a valley with the steepest road in the USA. A very enjoyable day and would highly recommend.

AAA+++ Big Island Circle Tour We’ve done full day tours on the other islands but this one has become our favourite. Marcus, our guide, picked us up at our hotel in a newer very clean van. He shared a lot of history and interesting information as we made our way around the island. Seeing the black sand beach for the first time was definitely a highlight. The lunch stop was excellent with burgers and sandwiches along with the unique doughnut-like pastry which satisfied everyone’s sweet tooth.
We thoroughly enjoyed each of our stops which were just the right length to see the location and take a bathroom break, if required. Volcano National Park was fascinating. The beauty of the Rainbow Falls is also amazing. Remember to bring your camera.
Finally, the meals provided were a high quality and delicious. There was no comparison in taste and quantity to meals we’ve had provided on our previous tours.
We highly recommend both this tour and Marcus as a guide!

Loved it! Perfect Way to Tour the Island!! Our family of 4 did this tour just a few days after we arrived (daughters 15 and 9). It was a great way to explore and see areas that we might want to go back to while we there. We were on the sprinter van with our guide, Marcus, and 6 other friendly people. Marcus was extremely knowledgeable and told us many interesting things about the island and the places we visited. The stops were all unique, interesting and beautiful! The tour provided water, food and snacks. We were worried our 9 year old would be bored, but she loved the day! Would highly recommend booking this tour!

Not Covid safe, but a fair tour I'm no expert in Hawaii's mask mandate, but I believe the state currently requires individuals to wear masks indoors, and the Hawaii Covid-19 state website expressly states that masks are required "on public transportation or when ride-sharing." Despite this, our tour guide rarely wore his mask on the tour bus, nor did he require all of the guests on the tour to do so. We first asked him to put on his mask politely, but he shrugged it off. We then called the main KapohoKine Adventures office at our first tour stop. An employee (whose name I believe is Jamie) confirmed that masks were required by all tour guides and guests when in the vehicle, and said that the tour guide's manager would be informed. Despite this, our tour guide still did not wear his mask during most of the rest of the tour, and about half of the guests on the tour also followed his lead and did not wear their masks on the tour bus. I understand that controlling guests is difficult, but the tour guide was an employee of the tour company! We would have left the tour, but given that we were miles away from our hotel without a car (Uber/Lyft prices were around $150-$200 for the distance we had to get back to our hotel!), we opened the windows on the tour bus to try to minimize our risk. If you've been following the Delta variant in the news, then you may understand our desire for greater caution when indoors.

If you are not concerned about Covid risks, you might have found the tour mostly enjoyable. It is a very efficient way to go about Big Island and to see all of the main sights (though all of it is a bit tourist-ey). Rainbow Falls was a beautiful sight. Keep in mind that this tour does not drive you down into Waipi'o Valley, but just to the Waipi'o Lookout point. The tour guide was friendly and knowledgeable, even if we were dissatisfied by his Covid safety protocol.

Highlight Of Our Hawaiian Vacation Best way ever to see the whole island in a day. Our guide Adam was quite knowledgeable about the culture and folklore of the island. The whole day was well planned but we never felt rushed. This tour is great for those who do not want to do a lot of hiking but still see everything. This was the highlight of our Hawaiian vacation for our 50th anniversary.

Kam Patel We were pleasantly surprised to be the only people that day. Crystal was excellent. She is a great guide, knows a lot about local culture and history. We did not visit Akaka falls but overall the whole experience was amazing. Would recommend it wholeheartedly especially if the driver/guide is Crystal

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly The Good
The van driver was friendly and informative. We visited some great natural areas with Volcano's National Park, Punalu’u Black Sand Beach, Akaka Falls and Waipio Valley Overlook. We visited some good commercial spots to eat: Bay View Farm (Coffee), Punalu'u Bake Shop, Volcano Winery and Tex Drive in. Lunch at the winery was decent and wine tasting was great. Dinner at Tex Drive in was acceptable.

The Bad,
There was just too much time at commercial places with the good places above, but also Big Island Candies and Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Visitor Center. These places aren't bad, but it just becomes too much time at places with the sole objective to shop. We missed Thurston Lava Tube at Volcano's National Park and missed part of Akaka Falls, because of the extra shopping stops.

The Ugly,
The seats in the back over the wheel well are pretty uncomfortable.
