What to expect

Itinerary

This double-deck power catamaran leaves from Ma’alaea Harbor and can bring you to the whales quickly. Juices and sodas are included, all kinds of drinks are available for purchase, and there are restrooms on board. The humpback whales return to Hawaii for a few months each year to mate and give birth. The trip takes you out to see for two hours, with a professional guide, these amazing animals from December to April.

A fun and informative trip The whale watching trip was informative, fun and interesting. The captain did a good job of engaging folks with information on humpback behavior. He also livened things up by encouraging questions from the crowd. It was a fun trip with several sitings, although it was near the end of the humpback mating/calving cycle.

Amazing Whale Watching Experience in Maui We had a fantastic experience with Quicksilver Tours for our whale watching trip! The boat was clean, spacious, and well-maintained, which made for a comfortable ride. We were lucky to see several whales during the tour—truly an unforgettable sight! The onboard photographer captured some beautiful moments, and the photos turned out great. The crew offered a nice selection of complimentary drinks and were friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable throughout the trip. The whole experience felt well-organized and smooth from start to finish. The nearby marketplace was also a great bonus—perfect for grabbing a bite or browsing local shops before or after the tour. Highly recommend this tour for anyone visiting Maui and hoping to catch a glimpse of these incredible creatures in a beautiful setting!

Great trip and though late in the season--great number of humpback whale sightings which included bottle neck dolphins i We have not sailed out of Maalaea harbor in the past. Travel regularly at spring break as we are owners at the Marriott on Kaanapali Beach. Typically book a small raft style whale watch boat which currently uses Mala Ramp. Trying something different with a larger boat was great. Easy to park, great to get on and off the boat, shade areas on board, hostess serving complimentary beverages along with $5.00 Mai tai's was a treat. We saw a good number of humpback whales -even though late in the season. Our Captain- narrator did a great job navigating and providing great information. He capably navigated us to the middle of a large number of whales. A couple curious males swam around us as we idled in the ocean with one male humpback swimming beneath us. Have not seen bottle nose dolphins swimming along with humpbacks--this was a first! Enjoyed seeing both a large humpback breach as well as a baby whale breaching several times not far off our stern as well. Comfortable sailing back to the harbor.

Great execpt check-in The trip and crew were great. The Whales corporated greatly on both trips that we took. The only thing that prevented them from a 5 was on the second trip we arrived extra early to the check-in desk to get a better choice on seat on the boat. But they allowed people to bypass the check-in desk and allowed people to check-in at the boat which was about a 5-minute walk from the check-in desk.

Outstanding experience! My husband and I had booked this tour for a couple of days prior to us actually going. Bad weather throughout the island caused tree damage and blockage of roads so that we could not get out to meet the boat the morning of our scheduled tour. Boss Frog’s and the tour operators of quicksilver graciously rebooked us to the day that we took the tour. Everything was fabulous! We have done a number of whale watching cruises and this boat was comfortable, secure, both shaded and sunny with accommodations if needed. The crew were excellent. They were friendly and helpful and clearly competent. Those seeing wildlife is never assured, I could not have been more pleased. We had barely gotten out of the harbor and saw a mother and her calf that we followed for quite a while. There was Breaching and flukes and fin waving and lots of spouts. We saw more as we continued on the tour. I would definitely tour again with Quicksilver on another trip.!!

A little disappointed The boat was comfortable and we did see some whales. Disappointed in the crew, however. Captain Kiwi seemed more interested in hearing himself talk than in actually seeing whales. Several times passengers saw whales fairly close and called out where they were but he either didn't see them or ignored them. The other crew members were rarely seen until it was time for evaluations and tips.

Family Fun 🐋 Extremely friendly crew aboard the Quicksilver!! We were a party of 14 and they made us feel like Ohana!

They obviously also knew what they were doing because immediately out of the marina, they found the first pod of humpback whales. And it just got better as the voyage continued. I think we even saw a 10 day old calf with its mama. The boat was clean and we highly recommend this excursion to everyone! They had a professional photographer on the boat too and we were so happy with his photos we purchased them.

Only negative would be not enough light beer in stock. On a hot day, with an older crowd not everybody can quench their thirst with only strong IPA’s. That also being said, online it advertised that beers were $3 each when on the boat it was $5. But it’s still the cheapest beer we found in Maui.

Amazing whale watching experience - one for memory books! We had a two-hour tour, and we weren't having high hopes as the cost is only 50% of what resort concierge services charge, and it was too good to be true. We rolled the dice, and booked them, and went at 8AM for whale watching tour - Dec 25th. It was early in the season too. To our pleasant surprise, we had an amazing viewing luck, and there were a bunch of 5 whales at one point which put on quite a show! Jumping out of water, and about 100 yards or so around the boat. Captain Kiwi, Myron, and Darius were very hospitable staff. The photographer lady (sorry forgot name) was excellent at grabbing incredible shots as well. By end of the tour, we saw so many whales that we were tired too....:) My 2 cents of advice - go in morning before sun becomes hot, stay on top deck, and try to seat at edges. Don't eat anything if you are seasick. Captain Kiwi is very aware of family needs, and rotates the boat every few mins to ensure everyone gets a fair view. My family enjoyed it thoroughly, including learning a bunch of facts and trivia about whales.

Exciting! We were lucky to see the whales jump out the ocean couple times on each side. Great storytelling by the captain. It was such a beautiful day on the ocean.

Whale watching on the Quicksilver in Maui - April 2024 This was a great choice for a whale watching tour in Maui. Even though it was late in the season for the whales, we were able to catch a mother, baby whale, and escort on our tour.

We managed to get decent seats near the upper level of the bow, which made for a great view. The crew was very professional and accommodating.
